Position Summary
The Manufacturing & Design Engineer is a hybrid technical role responsible for both manufacturing process optimization and product design support. This position performs CAD design and detailing, evaluates and updates hydraulic and electrical schematics, and ensures that product designs are manufacturable, cost-effective, and aligned with production capabilities. The role works cross-functionally with Manufacturing, Product Engineering, Quality, and Supply Chain to support new product introduction (NPI), design changes, and continuous improvement of both product and process.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Product Design & CAD Responsibilities
- Create and modify 3D CAD models, assemblies, and drawings to support production and product improvements.
- Generate and maintain detailed manufacturing drawings with proper GD&T and revision control.
- Evaluate existing designs for manufacturability (DFM/DFA) and recommend design changes to improve throughput, quality, and cost.
- Support engineering change requests (ECR/ECO/ECN) including drawing updates, BOM revisions, and configuration control.
- Collaborate with Product Engineering on new product development and design validation.
- Maintain accurate product structure, bills of material (BOMs), and drawing packages in PLM/ERP systems.
Hydraulic & Electrical Schematics
- Review, interpret, and update hydraulic and electrical schematics to reflect design and production changes.
- Collaborate with controls and hydraulic engineers to ensure accurate system integration.
- Validate that schematics align with physical builds, routing, and assembly processes.
- Troubleshoot production issues related to hydraulic circuits, wiring harnesses, and component integration.
- Support documentation updates for service manuals, work instructions, and build documentation.
Manufacturing Engineering Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and improve manufacturing processes, workflows, and production methods.
- Design or refine tooling, fixtures, and assembly aids to support efficient production.
- Perform time studies, capacity analysis, and line balancing for new and existing products.
- Support NPI by developing manufacturing plans, routings, and process requirements.
- Troubleshoot production and quality issues with root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Drive Lean and continuous improvement initiatives to reduce waste and improve productivity.
- Assist in capital equipment specification, justification, and implementation.
- Cross-Functional & Technical Support
- Act as the technical bridge between Product Engineering and Manufacturing.
- Ensure design intent is preserved while optimizing for fabrication, assembly, and serviceability.
- Support supplier interactions related to fabricated components, hydraulic systems, and electrical assemblies.
- Monitor and improve KPIs such as throughput, scrap, rework, and build hours.
- Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.
